Poisons

Works for 12 voices and piano

Absinth inspired many 19th century artists. In a dionysian tradition, numerous poets praised it and revelled in its harmful consequences. Arthur Rimbaud draws inspiration from it in Les Illuminations and Une Saison en enfer, Guillaume Apollinaire takes refuge in it in Alcools, Charles Baudelaire captures its evil effects in Les Fleurs du mal. In this program, where composers of today take their inspiration from the poets of yesterday in works for voices and piano, pianist Marie-Josèphe Jude fills the interlude between vocal works with a selection of piano pieces from the repertoire invoking potions and poisons.
